When is Black Friday 2023?

This year Black Friday falls on Friday November, 24, which is the day after Thanksgiving. Based on previous sales, we fully expect most of the Black Friday mattress deals to roll over to the Saturday and Sunday. Many of these will then appear in the Cyber Monday mattress deals and these will be your last chance to buy a good mattress at a much cheaper price. 

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, mattress prices start to slowly increase again until we see the arrival of the Presidents' Day mattress sales in February.

Don't forget that while Black Friday itself happens on the last Friday in November, many key mattress brands are offering their official sales now.

Is Black Friday a good time to buy a mattress?

Yes, Black Friday is the best time to buy a new mattress for less. Nearly all of the top-rated mattresses sold online and in store are discounted during the Black Friday mattress sales, with hundreds of dollars' worth of savings on offer. Some of the more competitive brands will offer money off plus free sleep gifts, such as pillows and mattress protectors.

There are other times of the year when we also recommend buying a new mattress, and these include Presidents' Day in February, plus the Memorial Day mattress sales and the Labor Day Mattress sales in September. However, as good as those deals normally are, none will come close to beating Black Friday as this is when we see the biggest discounts coupled with the cheapest mattress prices. 

What do we mean? You may see a 30% discount on the same mattress during Black Friday and the Presidents' Day sales. But from our experience, the base price of the mattress will nearly always be cheaper during Black Friday, so that 30% discount will save you more.

Why are Black Friday mattress deals so popular?

Black Friday mattress deals deliver the biggest savings of the year, with potentially several hundred dollars worth of savings on some of the year's top-rated mattresses. These holiday sales are incredibly popular because they deliver such cheap prices on otherwise pricey new beds – many of them from leading sleep brands including Saatva, Casper, Purple, Nectar Sleep, DreamCloud, Avocado Green Mattress and Helix Sleep in the States. 

In the UK, Black Friday mattress deals are a smaller affair yet no less beneficial to anyone shopping for a great mattress at a cheap price. In the UK we normally see Black Friday sales from Simba Sleep, Nectar Sleep, Emma Sleep, Brook + Wilde, Silentnight, Eve and REM-Fit. 

Cyber Monday vs Black Friday mattress deals

Outside of the Christmas period, there are two big shopping dates left on the calendar where mattress brands and retailers launch their best sales of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday mattress sales take place on the Monday directly after Black Friday, so you may be wondering which is the best day for deals: Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale dates

Black Friday mattress deals officially begin on Friday November 24, but we are already seeing them appear as 'early sales'. Cyber Monday mattress sales officially start on Monday, November 27 and end that same day.

The answer is simple: they are pretty much the same sale, albeit with a name change. Black Friday mattress deals roll over to Cyber Monday mattress sales, giving you one last chance to buy a great bed for a much cheaper price.

While there may be one or two deals that don't transfer across from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, the vast majority of them do. Similarly, one or two mattress brands may save a really big price drop for Cyber Monday exclusively but this is rare as most companies don't want to risk missing out on all those Black Friday mattress shoppers.

Remember, some leading mattress in a box brands launch flash sales as early as this month, and these may have bigger discounts than what we'll see in either the Black Friday or Cyber Monday mattress sales. Brands that have done this in the past include Nectar Sleep, DreamCloud and Tempur-Pedic, so bookmark this guide as we'll be updating it almost daily with the latest deals and flash sales.

Do stores have Black Friday mattress deals?

Major mattress stores always run Black Friday sales, and some of them can be as good as the deals we see online. The difference is that you'll need to travel to the store to see what discounts they are offering on which mattresses. 

If you're keen to buy a mattress in store instead of online during Black Friday, we'd encourage you to ask the sales staff the following questions to make sure you are getting a good deal and fair purchasing terms:

• What is the lowest price you have sold it for recently?
• What trial period does it come with?
• What is the warranty period?
• What is your refund and exchange policy?
• Do you offer free shipping?

When do Black Friday mattress deals arrive?

The Black Friday sale starts on the last Friday in November each year, so the 2023 Black Friday mattress deals will arrive on Friday, November 24. Black Friday is immediately followed by Cyber Monday, which will land on Monday, November 27.

These sales are the best time to buy a mattress for less, and in previous years we have seen discounts ranging from 30-60% off. That can add up to several hundred dollars, and some of the mattress deals sell out quickly. Casper and Tempur-Pedic, for instance, usually sell out of their budget models on Black Friday.

However, many brands have already started to offer Black Friday mattress deals. These early deals are great if you can't wait till the end of the month. 

However, some mattress brands choose to publish their Black Friday mattress deals as early as late October or the first week of November. These can include Flash Sales — Nectar and DreamCloud have done this in previous years — and time-limited sales to get more people to buy ahead of Black Friday.

Based on recent years, online is the best place to find the largest Black Friday discounts on mattresses. That's because online stores don't have the same bricks and mortar costs as physical shops so they can pass those savings on to you in the form of cheaper mattress prices.

Every year there is a Bed, Bath & Beyond Black Friday mattress sale and this covers mattresses, plus bedding and accessories such as pillows and blankets. You'll find some well-known brands on sale, including Zinus, Lucid, Sealy, Serta and Beautyrest. Mnny of these mattress brands appear in the Mattress Firm sale too, as well as on Amazon, so it's good to compare deals prices across all three sites before buying.

Right now, Bed, Bath & Beyond has the best Black Friday mattress deal on the Zinus 8 Inch Green Tea Luxe Memory Foam Mattress, discounting a queen to just $156 – on Amazon it's also reduced, but only to $260. Can I get free bedding with mattresses on Black Friday?

Lots of mattress brands throw in free pillows, mattress protectors, duvets and even weighted blankets as a way to sweeten their deals. This is something we see most months, regardless of Black Friday, but during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in past years we have seen an increase in the number of free bedding gifts coupled with larger discounts on the mattresses. Buying a new mattress can be intimidating. However, many bed-in-a-box companies have made the process simple. Some companies even offer white glove service and will remove your old mattress when delivering your new one. 

Keep in mind that while you may see ultra cheap deals on Black Friday, a mattress is something you will use every night of your life. In other words, if there's one item you should splurge on — a mattress would be it. (Alternatively, you can invest in one of the best mattress toppers).

Things to keep in mind before you buy

• Never pay full price: Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the best time to buy a new mattress or new bedding. Other holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day pale in comparison to the Black Friday mattress sales you'll see in the coming months. In other words, rest assured you're getting the lowest price of the year. 
• Know your return policy: Never buy a mattress without knowing the manufacturer's return policy. On paper, it may sound like the mattress of your dreams, but it could wind up being too firm or too soft for your liking. This is even more important now that most of us are doing our shopping online. A good return policy will offer at least a 100-night trial with free return shipping and no penalty fees. Some companies will go so far as offering 18-months trials with free return shipping.

Will there be good Black Friday bedding deals?

If you don't need a new mattress, Black Friday is also a great opportunity to revamp your current bed with a new duvet, bed sheets, or pillows. Bedding accessories tend to undergo steep discounts in November. In the past we've seen BOGO deals on pillows, up  to 50% off bedding/sheets, and mattress bases/frames starting as low as $149. Likewise, some of the best weighted blankets we've tested tend to see discounts that take up to 50% off.

However, this past summer Saatva topped its previous sale by taking $215 off any purchase of $1,000. 

2023 Black Friday sale: Right now, Saatva is offering its best deal ever by knocking $400 off $1,000 via this exclusive Tom's Guide link. That knocks the Classic twin to an all-time low of $695 or the queen to just $1,595. Black Friday mattress sales — Tempur-Pedic

Previous sales: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are designed for people who want to make a long-term investment in their sleep. Outside of the holidays, a Tempur-Pedic mattress can cost as much as $1,699. However, with Black Friday mattress sales now live — there's never been a better time to shop. Last year, Tempur-Pedic took $200 off select mattresses during Black Friday. The manufacturer also offered $100 off its entry-level line of mattresses. 

2023 Black Friday sale: Currently, it's offering up to $500 off adjustable mattress sets, which is a great way to score a new bed and frame. Unfortunately, its base (and least-expensive) model has yet to see a discount.

Black Friday mattress deals — Nectar

Previous sale: Nectar makes our favorite value mattress: the Nectar Memory Foam. For most of the year it offers a $200 discount with an aggressivley discount bedding bundle as an add-on option, which is very good value for money. However, as with all mattress companies, the actual price of the mattress fluctuates throughout the year. A queen size usually costs between $799-$899. 

2023 Black Friday sale: Right now Nectar is running its annual 40% off flash sale. This sale tends to beat its Black Friday mattress deal: after discount, the Memory Foam mattress is now just $359 for a twin ($659 for a queen). These are the cheapest prices we see from Nectar all year, but you don't get the free pillows, sheets and mattress protector.

Black Friday mattress deals — DreamCloud

Previous sale: If you're on a budget, but still want an excellent hybrid mattress, DreamCloud makes the best hybrid mattress you can buy. In our testing, we found that it's a great alternative to Saatva (the current hybrid champ) and costs hundreds less. In our DreamCloud review we called it the best option for back and stomach sleepers who need a firmer sleep surface for healthy spine alignment. 

2023 Black Friday sale: So far in 2023 DreamCloud has offered 40% off on most major retail holidays. We recently saw 50% off with the twin selling for $499, which has been the lowest price thus far and the price to beat this Black Friday.

Black Friday mattress deals — Casper

Previous sale: In addition to being one of the more popular bed-in-a-box brands, Capser is also known for offering excellent customer service. Casper's line of mattresses includes three models: the Casper Mattress (Original), the Hybrid Wave, and the Hybrid Nova. There's also the Casper Element, which is the brand's cheapest mattress. 

2023 Black Friday sale: In terms of Black Friday mattress deals, Casper is now taking up to 20% off mattresses. After discount, prices start from $535 for the Casper (twin). That's a slightly more generous discount than the 10% to 15% off discount we saw last year.

Previous sale: Tuft & Needle offered some epic deals during Prime Day (it had mattresses on sale from $280). This past summer, the manufacturer also took up to $250 off select mattress purchases. As for the quality of their mattresses, Tuft & Needle mattresses rank among the best mattresses you can buy. They make mattresses with two layers of proprietary foam: one layer is an adaptive cooling gel and the other a graphite foam that promises to keep you cool while you sleep. The Tuft & Needle Original Mattress is their main model offering a soft, plushy feel but with enough back support for most sleepers. 

2023 Black Friday sale: Right now it's blowing those deals away with its up to $800 off Black Friday sale. 

Black Friday mattress deals — Purple

Previous sale: Few mattress companies are as widely known as Purple Mattress. The company is known for being one of the most innovative brands, thanks to its unique "Purple grid" layer that's found inside each of the company's three mattresses. Last year, Purple's Black Friday mattress sales offered a mix of dollar-off discounts and free bundles. The discounts ranged from $50 to $200 off and every mattress purchase was accompanied by free sheets and a sleep mask. 

2023 Black Friday sale: Today's holiday deals are taking up to $900 off mattress and base bundles, which is their biggest dollar-off discount of the year.

Previous sale: Mattress Firm is a nationwide retailer known for its mattress discounts. Last year, it took up to $700 off select brands. It's most noteworthy deal allowed shoppers to upgrade from a queen to a king for the price of a queen or upgrade from a twin to a queen for the price of a twin. 

2023 Black Friday sale: The retailer has officially launched its Black Friday mattress deals with up to $700 off select brands plus a free adjustable base on eligible mattresses. While not as exciting as last year's sale, it still beats the sale they offered during July which took 25% off select mattresses from Sleepy's, Serta, and Beautyrest.
